My old cat has come alive!

I cannot believe it! My nearly eleven-year-0ld big black male cat is a couch potato. I have to give him tiny portions of food to keep him from being overweight. When I opened the box with the Bergan 70130 Starchaser Cat Toy and put it in the middle of the living room floor, Scottie came alive! He jumped down from the couch and started swatting the starchaser ball so hard and fast! He was a kitten again! He LOVES the cardboard scratch post in the center (I had purchased extra ones) and when his sister kitty Lisa tried to play with the Starchaser, Scottie swatted her! He sits on it, lies down along side of it and lazily pushes the ball to his liking. I myself love the twinkling Starchaser ball (I ordered a second one, just in case). I will probably purchase another of these to keep in storage just in case I step on it like I do most of my cats’ toys. But I have to say, this toy is SOLIDLY made. You don’t have to worry about it “falling apart” like another ball/track toy I ordered on Amazon, which the cats like but which is flimsy. Order this, get extra scratch pads, get an extra ball, and watch your babies go nuts. And if you have kittens (hopefully you are just fostering them and you didn’t cause them to happen), they will go c-r-a-z-y!

I thought this was a weak excuse for a cat toy – the cat has a very different opinion.

I first looked at this toy in our local hardware store because I was looking for an extra scratching surface for my cat. I thought the whole “ball in a track” thing was not likely to hold his interest for very long, if at all. But it was the price (approximately twice what Amazon charges) that made me decide against getting it.

Then I left the cat at a friend’s house for a couple weeks while I was on vacation. Their cat has one of these toys, used mainly as a catnip delivery vehicle. By the time I picked him up, it was obvious he had fallen in love with this toy. I had to suck it up and get him one for our apartment.

Much to my surprise, this has remained his favourite toy for over three months now. He plays with the ball, shreds the cardboard insert (and spreads bits of it all over the apartment), sits in the middle of it, rests his head on it, rolls around, and generally makes a complete fool of himself with this thing – every single day. Definitely worth what I paid for it, and a much better deal at the Amazon price.

If your cat has any interest in chasing small rolling objects, laser lights, claw sharpening, or any combination thereof – buy this thing! The only regret you wil have is the amount of time you spend cleaning random bits of shredded cardboard off your floors, furniture, clothes, and cat.

Party pooper

So my cat must be the party pooper because she has very little interest in this toy. She will bat the ball a few times and walk away. I wish she’d use the scratcher, but she prefers my furniture where she can stretch and shred simultaneously. (wah-wah) As far as the price, well it appears that you could buy the base with a ping-pong ball for $10 and a separate starchaser lighted ball for $5. Or you could buy this for $30. Something just doesn’t add up.
